Leigh is a qualified archery instructor and Level 1 coach who strongly believes in making archery accessible to everyone.
When Leigh first decided to take up archery he found it way more difficult than it should be! Firstly he had to find a club that was taking on beginners, then pay for a beginners course, then after going through that he would have to pay a small fortune to join the club, and spend money each time he went along to shoot!
Leigh felt there had to be an easier (and cheaper) way. He attended an introductory course ran by Glasgow Park Life and then was fortunate enough to get put forward for his instructors award so he could start volunteering in Glasgow. He later went on to complete his Level 1 coaching certificate and he still does some volunteering.
Through his volunteering, Leigh met lots of people who were interested in archery, but couldn’t find a way to actually get involved. Many couldn’t commit to shooting every week as they would be expected to in a club and some simply didn’t want to spend a huge sum of money on something they had never tried before.
Leigh realised that this was what he needed to provide, simple straightforward archery sessions where people could come along and learn the sport without the need to find and join an expensive club. His partner, Kirsty, got involved to do the more technical stuff like building this website and she also does all the driving! Kirsty is a self-confessed tech geek and loves tinkering about with the website and taking photos of all our events. Kirsty also does most of the bookings and replies to the majority of our emails but believe it or not she doesn’t do any archery!
So no matter what your level of experience or what you are looking to achieve in archery we can help. Weir Archery offer regular classes where you can come along and learn or practice in small groups, as well as one to one private coaching for those who want to focus on improving their technique. We also offer soft archery for kids (and big kids) and attend many events throughout the year with our soft archery kit.
